What is a plática?
A conversation among people who trust one another
A plática is an informal gathering of neighbors, friends, family members, or community members to talk about issues that affect us and share useful information.
Why we use pláticas
They can happen wherever people already gather and feel comfortable, such as a home, church, school, or community center.
Mi Voto Cuenta pláticas help you understand why our vote matters, how the election process works, where to find reliable information, and how to prepare to participate. We do not tell anyone who to vote for.
We have seen that a conversation among people who trust one another often informs more than a flyer, an ad, or a stranger asking someone to register.
Many people do not participate in elections because they do not have time, do not know where to start, feel overwhelmed by information, feel afraid, or simply believe their vote does not matter.
Conversation helps us understand one another
People have many reasons for not participating. Talking about them helps separate fear from facts and find practical solutions.

Through the plática, we hope each person understands the power of their vote and leaves with more clarity, more confidence, and the certainty that: my vote matters, and so do I.

The power of community
Pláticas are an opportunity to turn doubt into power: the power to make positive changes for our families and communities, and to transform voting from an inconvenience into a way to declare: I count, we count.
Millions of eligible Latino voters do not participate in elections. Imagine what we could accomplish as a community if everyone participated.
A plática can begin with only two or three people. It can be a small conversation with family, friends, neighbors, or people in your community.
